About

The mission

Forecast Missouri is the definitive portal for the Show-Me State's weather and climate — built to make the official National Weather Service forecast fast, clean, and highway-clear for all 115 county units, the 114 counties and the independent city of St. Louis, from the confluence and the Bootheel to the Ozark plateau and the northwest prairie.

Missouri is where the country's weather changes hands. Eight states touch it — only Tennessee ties that — and it sits at the seam where Gulf moisture, Plains dryline storms and Canadian cold all arrive in the same week. The spring severe line runs it west to east, the two biggest rivers in North America meet inside it and flood on their own schedules, and the Ozarks turn an inch of rain into a wall of water. Forecast Missouri is built around that crossroads.

The design language

The look borrows from the American Interstate system — the reflective paper, the green guide signs, the blue service signs, the brown recreation signs, and the red-white-and-blue route shields — set in Overpass, the typeface drawn from the Highway Gothic lettering on those signs. It is the right system for this state: the first Interstate pavement in the country was poured on I-70 in St. Charles County. Missouri takes a limestone paper and a Gateway steel accent, on river haze — its own note in the network.

Metro & region sites

Missouri is covered close-up by 3 region sites, each on its own subdomain of forecastmissouri.com — the same maps, the same live radar and the same climate record as this site, drawn to one metro or region instead of the whole state, with a page for every city in it. They are part of Forecast Missouri, not separate sites: /about on any of them lands back here.

Companions & the network

Missouri touches eight states, more than almost anywhere. All eight are live: Forecast Illinois across the Mississippi on the whole eastern line, Forecast Iowa to the north, Forecast Kentucky and Forecast Tennessee at the Bootheel, Forecast Arkansas the length of the southern line, Forecast Oklahoma off the southwest corner past Joplin, Forecast Kansas the length of the western line through both Kansas Citys, and Forecast Nebraska off the northwest corner above Rulo — each tinted in its own accent on the hero map and clickable from it. The rest of the Forecast <State> network is part of the same system.
